Lane steps down as Calloway County basketball coach
After seven seasons as Calloway County boys basketball coach, Bruce Lane resigned on Tuesday. Lane said he wants to spend more time with his family.
“If you’re as competitive as I am, you have to be all-in with coaching,” Lane said. “I want to see my kids grow up.”
Lane won 122 games in his seven years with the Lakers. His teams never missed the region tournament while he was head coach. The Lakers’ deepest region tournament run came in 2013 as Calloway County lost to Graves County in the First Region championship game.
Lane said he met with his team on Tuesday afternoon, and called it one of the toughest days of his life. While he says “never say never” about a future return to coaching, Lane says right now he just needs a break.
The next Laker coach will have an experienced team returning next season. Calloway is losing just two seniors off this year’s team.
