Murray State Women’s Tennis heading to Vanderbilt for NCAA Tournament
As they watched to see where they will playing in the NCAA Tournament, there were a lot of smiles on the faces of the Murray State women’s tennis team Tuesday.
And they have a reason to be excited.
“This was the goal from day one,” said Racers head coach Olga Elkins. “This is what we talked about and just are excited to continue the season and play a few more weeks.”
It didn’t take long for the Racers to find out who their opponent will be.
For the fourth time in their five trips to the NCAA Tournament Murray State will face Vanderbilt in the first round. But playing teams with the caliber the Commodores have isn’t anything new for the Racers. This season Murray State played three ranked teams in Chattanooga, Memphis, and Tennessee.
“In those games we were so close,” Elkins said. “They just played bigger points than we did. So that will be something we will have to work on.”
And seeing how young this years team is, they may not even know they are supposed to struggle.
“They just go out and play,” said Elkins. “The fact that they dont know can help us.”
Murray State and Vanderbilt will play on Friday, May 9th in Nashville, Tennessee.
