McCracken County heads to state tournament
On Monday, the McCracken County Mustangs will attempt to make a run at a state championship.
The Mustangs (31-8), will face Hazard in the first round at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington. Even though they are a team in their first year, the Mustangs have a ton of experience playing on the big stage. Last season, Lone Oak competed in the state tournament, while Heath made a run in the All “A” Championship.
“I think the experience we have will help us in the long run,” said head coach Geno Miller. “I think a lot of people are overlooking us, as well as Hazard.”
A key to the Mustangs success this week could lie with the McCracken County pitching staff. This season the Mustangs have shut out teams 10 times, while allowing just under three runs per game all season.
