Murray State’s Fairell still dealing with hip injury

Murray State senior forward Jonathan Fairell says he’s about 80% as he continues to work back from a torn muscle in his hip. Fairell injured his hip during a pick-up basketball game back in August.

Fairell was limited in practice Wednesday as the Racers held their first official practice of the 2014-15 season. He’ll have an MRI Thursday to help doctors figure out how the muscle is healing.

The problem with this injury is there is no way to see how it’s progressing. There are no bruises or scars — Fairell has to try to judge how’s he’s improving simply by how he’s feeling. With this kind of rare injury, Fairell says even when doctors say he’s 100% healthy, it may take a while before he fully trusts his body.

Fairell has time to get healthy. The Racers will play their exhibition game on Freed-Hardeman on November 8th before opening the season at home with Houston on November 14th. Fairell started all 34 games last year for Murray State, averaging 6.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
