Southern Illinois mayor resigns

A southern Illinois city is now without a mayor.

On Thursday, Herrin Mayor Victor Ritter resigned from office.

In a letter to the city council, Ritter said he was resigning due to health complications.

The city council will chose an acting mayor to serve until a new mayor is chosen.

The resignation is effective immediately.
