Ill., Ky. road crews preparing for possible winter weather event Sunday

Crews prepared the Interstate 24 Bridge between Paducah, Ky. and Metropolis, Ill. for a possible winter weather event this weekend.

The Illinois Department of Transportation pre-treated the bridge Thursday morning for a possible freeze, but they will be out again over the weekend.

Highway crews will pre-treat bridges and overpasses across western Kentucky Friday. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is preparing for temperatures to drop below freezing and a chance of small accumulation of snow early Monday morning.

The weather forecast indicates a 50 percent chance of rain moving into the area Sunday afternoon with a 50 percent chance of a switchover to snow overnight heading into Monday morning.

Drivers are advised to monitor the local forecast as the system approaches and use caution.
