Murphysboro alderman sentenced to prison for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and Aggravated Battery charges
A Murphysboro city alderman was sentenced to prison on Monday in Jackson County on Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and Aggravated Battery charges.
According to the Jackson County State’s Attorney Office, on September 7th, 2013, Carbondale police responded to a gas station on West Main Street on what was relayed as a robbery.
When they arrived, they met with a woman who said a man she didn’t know held her against her will inside his vehicle and drove her through several different areas in Jackson and Union Counties.
That man, identified as 47-year-old Ronald Nolan, also touched the woman inappropriately and in a sexual manner during the travels. The woman tried numerous times to get out of the vehicle, even pulling on the steering wheel in an effort to crash the vehicle.
Detectives located the vehicle in question and found that the locking mechanisms had been damaged so that it made it impossible to open the passenger door from inside the vehicle.
Nolan plead guilty to Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and Aggravated Battery. He was sentenced to nine years in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.
Nolan will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his natural life.
