Officers shot at in Clarkton, Missouri

The Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting suspect, Elton Loughary, passed away at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday.

Clarkton, Missouri officers were involved in a shooting Wednesday evening.

Just before 6:00 p.m., a Clarkton resident called saying there was a man in their yard with a gun.

The Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office says when officers arrived, the man stepped from his vehicle and fired his gun at them.

One of the officers returned fire and hit the man.

The man, Elton Loughary of Clarkton, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Memphis.

The incident is being investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Dunklin County Major Case Squad, with assistance from the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Malden Police Department.
