Couple arrested on child battery charges

Two people were arrested Thursday evening in connection to what police are calling the beating of a three-year-old.

Mt. Vernon, Illinois police arrested 28-year-old Michael Belmont and his wife, 27-year-old Kaysie Belmont, on aggravated battery of a child and domestic battery charges.

The arrests came after a Jefferson County grand jury issued indictments in the case.

Both are lodged in the Jefferson County Justice Center.

Bond for Michael was set at $250,000. Bond for Kaysie was set at $50,000.
