West Frankfort woman charged with robbery

A West Frankfort, Illinois woman has been charged with robbery after police say she broke into the house of a neighbor.

According to a police report from the West Frankfort Police Department, 28-year-old Whitney Mansfield had entered the home of her 70-year-old neighbor Roberta Walters on November 22 and was in the process of robbing the home when Walters returned home. Walters confronted Mansfield and a struggle ensued before Mansfield ran from the house with several valuable items, police say.

Walters gave police a description of the robber and evidence at the scene led to Mansfield’s arrest at a house in “close proximity” to Walters’ on Tuesday, December 2.

Mansfield is charged with two counts of robbery and residential burglary. She is being held at the Franklin County Jail.
