Southern Illinois woman sentenced to prison on embezzlement charges

A Jackson County, Illinois woman was sentenced to federal prison on Thursday on bank embezzlement charges.

42-year-old Buffy Bastien of Ava plead guilty to embezzling more than $229,000 from the Bank of Carbondale.

According to U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton, Bastien, who was an employee at the bank, took the funds from 2010 to 2014.

Bastien has so far repaid more than $48,000 of the money taken.

She will serve 24 month in federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
