Cancer fundraiser a success

Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear was in Paducah Monday afternoon to receive a check from the Light It Up Pink campaign.

More than $15,000 was raised from selling pink light bulbs during October.

All the proceeds will go to the Horses and Hope Program which was found by Beshear in 2008.

The organization’s goal is to promote breast cancer awareness through screening and early treatment.

Beshear says the cause is close to her heart as her husband is also a cancer survivor.

“He’s a 20 year survivor and had he not detected it early he wouldn’t be governor today so this affects me from that direction too,” said Jane Beshear, First Lady of Kentucky.

Horses and Hope also provides on-site mammograms at Kentucky racetracks throughout the year.
