Coroner identifies woman found dead near Murray State campus

Murray Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old woman found Saturday morning in a wooded area west of Stadium View Drive.

Calloway County Coroner Ricky Harris has identified the woman at Megan Cooper.

Sgt. David Howe says officers responded to a welfare check request at Cooper’s home on Stadium View Drive in Murray Friday night. Cooper was not home at the time.  Investigators began a follow up investigation and a missing persons report was filed.  Saturday morning, officers were conducting a search and located the body of Cooper.

An autopsy was performed in Louisville. Preliminary autopsy results are pending the results of toxicology testing. Coroner Harris says there was no indication of any type of lethal injection or disease. Foul play is also not suspected at this time.
