Police: Seizure may have caused deadly crash

Sunday morning, Sikeston Police officers responded to a serious accident at Malone and Kingshighway.  Witnesses told police a man driving a 1999 Dodge pickup truck was traveling west at a high rate of speed on Malone just prior to the crash.

Evidence at the scene corroborated witness statements and indicated the vehicle veered off to the right at the Kingshighway intersection.  The driver jumped the curb and ran off the road, northwest of the intersection.  It then began rolling and collided with a trash dumpster in Legion Park.

When officers arrived, they found the driver ejected from the vehicle and seriously injured.

The driver, who was the only person in the truck, was taken to a hospital where he later died.  He was identified as 37-year-old Jason Allen Holt.

Holt’s family explained to police he had a history of seizures.  Although not certain, police believe a seizure could have contributed to the crash.  Police are investigating an official cause.
