Owner of bar arrested for allegedly shooting at another man

The owner of a southern Illinois bar was arrested and charged after he allegedly shot at another man.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the VanZandt’s Tavern in Dowell just before 2:00 a.m. Monday morning on reports of shots fired.

The caller told deputies that he was chased from the bar and shot at.

56-year-old Van Ray VanZandt, the owner of the tavern, was arrested and charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.

He is being held in the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office pending a court appearance.
