Half of Kentucky kindergarten students ready for school

A new report shows that just half of incoming Kentucky kindergarten students are ready for school.

According to Governor Steve Beshear, the data comes from a Kindergarten Readiness Screener given statewide to all incoming kindergarten students.

The test asked students to give their name, age, recite the alphabet, and count to 30, among other tasks.

Over 49,000 students were screened.

Last year, 49% of students proved they were ready for kindergarten.
