Preliminary report released on Lyon County plane crash

A preliminary report has been released by the National Transportation Safety Board of the plane that crashed in Lyon County killing four people.

On January 2nd, a plane crashed in a wooded area near the Suwanee community.

Four people on board were killed in the crash. A 7-year-old girl survived and walked to a nearby house to get help.

The preliminary report reveals more on what happened before the plane crashed.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, just before 6:00 p.m. the pilot asked air traffic control for information on the nearest airport due to “problems” with both engines.

The controller told the pilot to head towards the Kentucky Dam State Airport which was 11 miles away.

The pilot said he could see the airport and that the right engine had stopped producing power.

After getting clearance, the pilot said he lost sight of the airport. Air traffic control then lost contact with the pilot.

There is no other information in the preliminary report on what may have caused the plane to crash.
