New information on chemical leak at Honeywell

There is new information concerning the chemical leak at the Honeywell Metropolis Plant last October.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) wrapped up their fourth quarter inspection report and has notified Honeywell of a violation in how they classified the situation.

In November, the NRC told Honeywell the leak should have been an “alert” and not a “plant emergency.”

The NRC says however that the plant properly mitigated the release of UF6 and did not endanger the community.

Honeywell is also expected to begin face-to-face contract negotiations with locked out USW Local 7-669 workers on February 4th.
