Man shot in back during attempted home invasion robbery

A Poplar Bluff man is being treated for a gunshot wound after being shot during an attempted home invasion robbery.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department says on Sunday two men wearing dark clothes and masks broke down the front door of a home in the 1600 block of Sanders Street.

Witnesses at the home say the men flourished a semi-automatic rife and a semi-automatic pistol and shouted “Give us everything.”

As the two men searched the home, they fired their guns several times shouting, “Tell us where it’s at, or next time we won’t miss.”

One of the shots fired hit 27-year-old Christopher Gregory in the back.

After the shooting, the two suspects left the home. The witnesses said nothing was taken.

Detectives found approximately 2 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $7,000 in the home.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department believes the suspects were attempting to steal the marijuana.

Gregory has been transferred to a hospital in St. Louis for treatment of his injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
