Charges filed after child shows symptoms of meth use

A Mayfield couple has been arrested and charged with exposing a child to methamphetamine.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office says on Monday a deputy was called to the Jackson Purchase Medial Center after a 11 month old child was brought into the ER with symptoms similar to meth use. A drug screen revealed the child was positive for amphetamines.

The deputy learned that 32-year-old Gregory Pannell and 23-year-old Stephanie Gregory were taking care of the child.

An investigation revealed that Pannell and Gregory had smoke meth in their bed earlier in the day and that the child was between the two at the time. Methamphetamine was found in the couple’s home during a search the next day.

Pannell and Gregory were arrested and taken to the Graves County Jail.

Both face child endangerment charges. Gregory faces additional charges for having a gun as a convicted felon.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office says the child has been placed with family members.
