Vehicle registration system getting overhaul in Kentucky
Kentucky is changing its vehicle registration system.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that it will be implementing a “print on demand” system for license plate renewals.
Instead of county clerk offices having to stock booklets of pre-printed decals, the new decals are printed at the time of registration.
KYTC says it will make the system more efficient and cost-effective.
There will be some changes to the decals due to the new system. They will no longer be color-coded by year.
The new decals will have black lettering on a white background. The year and month of registration expiration will be in bold numbers and the license plate number will be printed on the bottom.
All 120 counties are expected to be on the new system by the end of April.
