McCracken County attorney asks for reduction of his own salary

In a statement sent Tuesday, McCracken County Attorney Samuel Clymer said he has corrected a miscalculation of his salary and requested a salary reduction of more than $14,000.

Clymer said the the county attorney salary for fiscal year 2014-2015 was already set when he took office in January. However, Clymer said when he analyzed the financial data and Kentucky law on compensation for county attorneys, he found the annual salary for his position was $14,311.30 more than it should be.

“I immediately brought this miscalculation to the attention of the McCracken County Fiscal Court and requested that my annual salary be reduced by $14,311.30, effective immediately,” Clymer said.

The county attorney said he also spoke with the County Finance Department to ensure the county hasn’t overpaid him during his first three months in office.
