Atmos Energy Yard Rescue 811 contest starts today

As part of National Safe Digging Month in April, Atmos Energy invites folks to enter its Yard Rescue 811 Contest, beginning today. The contest aims to remind property owners, construction crews and DIY-ers to call 811 before digging in yards.

Participants have the chance to win $2,000 for a yard makeover. To enter, take a photo of your yard — whether a home, church, school, or business — upload the photo to the contest page or to the contest tab at Atmos Energy’s Facebook Page, and ask your family and friends to vote for your photo every day at the Facebook page

The photo with the most votes in each state Atmos Energy serves wins.

Atmos Energy says it’s important to call 811 before digging in yards because the highest risk to underground natural gas pipelines is accidental damage that happens during digging. Calling 811 before digging connects property owners and contractors to their state’s one-call center that lets all appropriate utilities know about the excavation. The company says professional locators then mark all underground utility lines at the digging site with flags or spray paint.

The Yard Rescue 811 contest is open to all residents in communities served by Atmos Energy Corporation’s natural gas distribution divisions in Kentucky, Tennessee, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia. It excludes company employees, vendors, suppliers, agencies and 811 damage-prevention centers.

The contest ends at midnight, central time, on April 24.
