Soup kitchen in Murray gets location, closer to opening

Debbie Smith calls it a match made in heaven. She had the dream of a daily soup kitchen, but no place to set it up. And Murray Family Church  had a place, but no one to run a soup kitchen. 

Together, they say they can serve hundreds in their community by opening Soup for the Soul.

The soup kitchen is designed to be open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Smith said she knew there was a need, but is learning it’s greater than she thought. 

Monday, the appliances needed to cook the meals were delivered, and Smith says once they’re installed the kitchen’ll be in business. Her goal is to be up and running by May 15. 

Until then, they’ll continue to raise money and donations through fundraising. Their next fundraiser is 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Soup for the Soul will host a picnic and dessert auction at its new location at 411 Maple Street, in Murray.
