Eggners Ferry Bridge restricted to one lane Friday

Traffic on the U.S. 68/Kentucky 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge at Aurora will be restricted to one lane Friday beginning around 9 a.m. The lane restriction is expected to be in place for eight to nine hours, according two Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd.

Todd says a contractor for KYTC has planned the restriction to allow crews to pour concrete to create a footer for a pier pile on the new bridge. Concrete trucks will have to park on one lane of the old bridge to take concrete to the work site on the new bridge. Drivers are asked to be alert in the one-lane traffic for alternating flow directed by flaggers and use caution because of the number of trucks delivering materials to the construction site.

Drivers should also be alert for oversized loads of steel heading to the site along U.S. 641 and Kentucky 80 through Marshall and Calloway Counties and from Interstate 24 along Kentucky 453 and the Trace through Land Between the Lakes.

Todd says delays to traffic in the bridge work zone have generally been less than five minutes. To observe construction activity on the new bridge, click here
