I-24 crash blocks lanes in Christian County
UPDATE: Around 4 p.m. Thursday, Keith Todd said westbound traffic on I-24 was backed up roughly to the Kentucky-Tennessee state line at the 93 mile marker. Todd said eastbound traffic is moving about 10 miles per hour at the crash site, with about a 2 mile backup.
Todd said crews are making progress on cleanup of the site, but there’s still fire residue stuck to the pavement because of the intensity of the blaze. The estimated time to clear debris is one to two hours.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says a multi-vehicle wreck with a fire is blocking the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 at the 89 mile marker in Christian County.
A tractor-trailer hauling chickens, a recreational vehicle and a passenger vehicle are involved, and westbound I-24 is being detoured via Kentucky 115 North to to Kentucky 109, then to Kentucky 1453 and U.S. 41-Alternate to return to I-24 westbound at Exit 86.
