“Wicked” creations in quilt contest

For this year’s Cherrywood Challenge, quilters created squares themed after the popular Broadway musical “Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz.”

Visitors get to vote on their favorite square featured in the “Wicked” competition, and there’s 114 to choose from, hailing from all over the country. Local 6 Chief Photographer Mike Spissinger captured images of some of the witchy stitches on display at the AQS Quilt Museum in Paducah, featured in the slide show above.

The contest is sponsored by Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabrics. The Minnesota-based company has also created a book of pictures of the squares, which costs $22. To order the book online, visit the website here, and click on the Wicked Challenge tab at the top of the screen. For more information on the contest and the book, call Cherrywood Fabrics owner Karla Overland at 218-8217639.
