Widening of Kentucky 121 in Murray begins Monday

A project to widen Kentucky 121 near Murray State University’s CFSB Center begins Monday, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says.

The roughly mile-long work site starts at about the 14 mile point at South 12th Street in Murray and ends near the 15 mile marker at Bailey Road, where utility work has been going on for the past year.

Todd says a KYTC contractor will widen the roadway to four lanes with a center turn lane along the highway near the CFSB Center, coordinating with the university to schedule work phases to minimize traffic disruptions for special events. The new roadway is expected to reduce traffic congestion when finished, especially for events at the center.

Drivers are advised to be cautious where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway near the flow of traffic, and to be alert for changes in traffic configuration along the work zone.
