SIU police issue alert following residence hall beating

Southern Illinois University – Carbondale Police are investigating an on-campus battery at a dorm Friday night.  Police sent out this campus-wide alert:

You are receiving this message as part of Southern Illinois University’s commitment to providing campus-area crime information in compliance with the federal Clery Act, formally known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety is investigating an incident in which a female was reportedly battered by three people in her residence hall room at Neely Hall. The incident occurred in the evening of Friday, May 8, 2015. During the incident the victim’s cell phone was taken. It is believed that at least one of the suspects is well known to the victim. The victim received minor injuries and was provided medical care.

The suspects are described as two females and one male between the ages 18 and 27 years. One suspect was a black male, 5’11 to 6’1″ tall, wearing a camouflage t-shirt, black shorts, black socks, and lime green and black shoes, goatee, with hair in cornrows. The second suspect, a black female, approximately 5’0 to 5’4″ tall, wearing a light colored tank top with a black pattern, blue jean shorts, gray shoes, white headband, and long black hair. The third suspect was a black female, 5’0″ to 5’4″ tall, wearing a blue baseball hat, sunglasses, black coat with a fur hood, black tank top, capri-style pants and black shoes.
