Police investigating infant death

The death of an infant girl that happened early Wednesday in Marion is under investigation, the Marion Police Department says.

Police responded to a report of an unresponsive 10-month-old girl at 5:03 a.m. Wednesday morning, and the baby was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center. 

She was pronounced dead a short while later, police say. The cause of the death of the child, who was in foster care, hasn’t been determined. An autopsy has been scheduled, and the Marion Police Department is investigating the death with assistance from the Illinois State Police and the Department of Children and Family Services.
