Police: Man shot after firing at officers in Owensboro

Kentucky State Police have identified a suspect in a drug investigation who was fatally shot after he fired at officers at a motel in western Kentucky.

Police said the man was 38-year-old Chrislon Talbott of Owensboro.

Police said in a statement that the encounter began Wednesday night at an Owensboro motel as officers tried to arrest the suspect. The statement says the man was staying in a room with a female and declined to come out when police arrived. Officers called in hostage negotiators.

Police say the man came out of the room early Thursday and fired at officers, who shot back. The suspect was hit and taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Four officers were placed on paid administrative leave. They are state police Detective Matt Conley and Owensboro police officers Troy Couch, Chris Hayes and Matthew Ralph.
