Police: 15 businesses cited for selling alcohol to an underage man

Paducah police said an underage man was able to buy alcohol at 15 stores in Paducah and McCracken County during a police operation conducted Friday evening.

In a news release sent Tuesday, Paducah Police Capt. Brian Laird said the operation was “a proactive effort to prevent the sale of alcohol to our youth.” A man under the age of 21 assisted officers by attempting to buy alcoholic beverages at 26 businesses, entering some stores and using the drive-through lane at others. 

Eleven businesses didn’t sell the alcohol to the man. Among the 15 that did, police said employees at some stores asked for identification — which showed the man was under 21 — but continued with the sale. 

Selling alcoholic beverages to folks under the legal drinking age is a class B misdemeanor. During the operation, employees were cited at:
