Illinois House, Senate to return for session in June
Leaders of the Illinois General Assembly say lawmakers will be in “continuous session” throughout the summer.
Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton made the announcements Sunday, the last day of the spring session.
Madigan says the House’s next scheduled session day will be Thursday. He’s warned members they won’t receive mileage reimbursements or per diem pay. He also says they could be called back to Springfield with as little as 48 hours’ notice.
Cullerton scheduled the Senate to return June 9.
The chambers are adjourning Sunday without consensus on a 2016 budget approved by Democrats that is more than $3 billion out of balance.
GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner says he won’t sign the plan until Democrats pass some of his priorities.
