High speed race to take place in the skies above southern Illinois this weekend

Over 20 planes will be taking to the skies Saturday above southern Illinois.

On June 6, the third Big Muddy Air Race will be held at Southern Illinois Airport.

Pilots will be flying a 130 mile course around southern Illinois.

Some of the planes will reach speeds of up to 250 miles per hour, and the fastest planes will cover the entire course in a little more than a half hour.

Everyone is invited to visit with the pilots and see their planes before the race begins at 10:30 a.m.

The Southern Illinois Airport is off of Route 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro in Illinois.
