Man arrested for a suspended license, drugs found in vehicle

A Grand Rivers man was arrested Monday after the Marshall County sheriff recognized him because he has a DUI suspended license.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said Sheriff Kevin Byars saw the man’s vehicle leaving the judicial building parking lot and recognized the driver, 40-year-old Monte Clark.

When Byars got to his vehicle, Clark had pulled out onto Benton’s 5th Street and headed west. The sheriff’s office said Byars observed Clark enter the parking lot at Wal-Mart and found the vehicle in the lot.

Byars tried to arrest Clark. The sheriff’s office said Clark resisted arrest, and a struggle ensued in the parking lot. Byars handcuffed Clark and took him into custody.

Clark was charged with driving on DUI suspended operators license and resisting arrest.

Sheriff’s Detective Don Tidwell searched the vehicle and found more than two grams of methamphetamine and one fourth of a gram of marijuana. Further charges are pending.
Byars was assisted by officers from the Benton Police Department.
