Man faces murder charge in Reidland storage facility shooting

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man Tuesday following a shooting at a storage unit facility near Reidland the day before.

The man. 49-year-old Jeff Conrad of Benton, was arrested Tuesday evening after a special grand jury indicted him earlier in the day on a count of capital murder.

The shooting happened at the AAA Mini-Storage facility at 270 Eagles Nest Drive near the Reidland area of McCracken County. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from Conrad, who the sheriff’s office said told deputies he arrived at the complex to find two men with a pickup truck stealing from a unit he’d rented.

One of those men, 30-year-old Benton resident Garlon Casey Cox, died after he was shot during the incident.

The sheriff’s department said Cox had an apparent gunshot wound to the head when deputies arrived on scene. Cox was pronounced dead at 7:53 a.m. Monday at Lourdes Hospital.
