Mother and boyfriend charged with child abuse

A McCracken County couple have been arrested and charged with child abuse.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says on May 10 they were informed of possible child abuse of a 28 month old child.

The child had been taken to an out of state hospital. Medical professionals said that the child had endured severe abuse due to the severity, number, and location of injuries they found.

Detectives interviewed the mother of the child, 21-year-old Taylor Sloan, and her live in boyfriend, 25-year-old Jarell Hardin, when the abuse was reported.

Detectives later searched their home in the 100 block of Morgan Oaks Lane of West Paducah and found small amounts of marijuana within reach of the child.

An investigation was conducted for the next several weeks and on June 5 the evidence was presented to a McCracken County Grand jury. The grand jury indicted both Sloan and Hardin on the following charges:

– 1st degree assault
– Criminal abuse 1st degree to a child 12 years of age or under
– Possession of marijuana
– Possession of drug paraphernalia
– Wanton endangerment 2nd degree

Hardin was also charged with tampering with physical evidence.

Sloan and Hardin turned themselves in at the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department on Monday.
