SIU Carbondale offering free dental services to children

Southern Illinois University Carbondale has announced its Dental Sealant Grant Program will provide free preventive dental services to children on Wednesday, June 17.

The dental clinic for kids age 3 to 17 will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 200 S. Walker St. in Cobden, Illinois. SIU says services include exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants performed by senior dental hygiene students. Dr. Angela Chen of Carbondale is the clinic’s dentist.

SIU says the exam fulfills Illinois requirements for children entering kindergarten, second and sixth grade this fall. The services are free. Children who are members of the “AllKids” program are advised to bring their respective medical cards.

For more information contact Natalie Richardson, a dental hygienist in SIU Carbondale’s School of Allied Health, at 618-453-7223.
