Teens face robbery charges
Police say two Paducah teens were arrested in connection with an an attempted robbery Tuesday night and an armed robbery Sunday evening.
On Sunday, an employee at a convenience store at 858 HC Mathis Drive reported a robbery to police. The employee told officers a black man went in the store just before closing time, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash register. The robber took some cash cash and left. Police did not say how much was taken.
Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, officers responded to a report of two suspicious persons at Jimmy Johns at 414 Lone Oak Road. Employees told officers two people approached the front door of the restaurant wearing masks, but they couldn’t get in because the door was locked for closing.
Paducah Police Officer Nathan Young spotted two people — Paducah 18-year-olds Brandon Reed and Aerion Jones — a few blocks away. Police say the men matched the description of the people they were looking for.
The police department says that while speaking to Reed and Jones, Young found a BB gun that was altered to look more like a handgun and a white t-shift on the ground nearby. Officers also found a small bag of marijuana and a bottle of tequila.
Reed was charged with two counts of first degree robbery, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana and theft by unlawful taking under $500. Jones was charged with two counts of first degree robbery, tampering with physical evidence and possession of marijuana. Both were jailed at McCracken County Regional Jail.
