Arkansas man arrested in Paducah

A man wanted in Arkansas on a battery charge was arrested at a Paducah apartment complex Monday afternoon, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department.

A Little Rock, Arkansas, judge signed a warrant charging 44-year-old Joel D. Cheirs with first degree domestic battery on June 5, the McCracken sheriff’s department says. He is accused of using a handheld Taser on a woman he knew and stabbing her in the neck before using the Taser on another woman as he left the scene.

The U.S. Marshal had information that Cheirs may have fled to the Paducah area, the sheriff’s department says, and sheriff’s detectives worked with U.S. Marshals over several days to find Cheirs’ location. He was arrested at Black Oak Apartments on Jefferson Street in Paducah around 12:25 p.m. Monday.

Cheirs was jailed at the McCracken County Regional Jail. The sheriff’s department says extradition proceedings are expected to be held in the next few days.
