AR-15 rifle stolen, traded for drugs according to Sheriff’s Office

Two people were arrested in Scott County, Missouri in connection with a string of burglaries.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says the first burglary was reported on June 7. An AR-15 rifle, firearms accessories, collectible cash and coins, a camera, and two sets of binoculars were taken from a home on Rainbow Lake Road.

On June 19, another burglary was reported in the same area. This time collectible toy cars and a firearm were taken. The Sheriff’s Office says a trail of blood was found at the scene indicating that the suspect was injured.

Later that same day, a deputy was dispatched to the home of 22-year-old Tyler Ward of Blodgett on a domestic violence call. At the home, the deputy found the firearm that was stolen earlier in the day and another firearm stolen from New Mexico. Ward, who was home at the time, also had multiple cuts to his hands, face, and neck.

During the investigation, deputies found that 18-year-old Cassidy Scott of Sikeston was an accomplish to Ward in the burglaries.

Both were arrested and charged with burglary, stealing and property damage. Ward faces additional charges for receiving stolen property and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Bond is set at $25,000 for Cassidy and $50,000 cash only for Ward.

The Sheriff’s Office says all of the stolen property, except for the AR-15, accessories, and collectible coins was found.

Deputies say the AR-15 and accessories were traded to an unknown person in Cape Girardeau for drugs.

Sheriff Walter is asking that anyone with information on this case, especially the AR-15, to contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately at (573) 545-3525.
