Phone scam hitting Local 6 area

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Departments says they know of a phone scam targeting local residents.

The caller claims to be a member of  the U.S. Department of Treasury and tells people they have a delinquent tax bill. The caller then says the bill must be paid within a certain time period or else the person will be arrested.

The U.S. Department of Treasury says it is aware of the scam and is currently trying to stop the scammers.

They ask that anyone who has given personal information or money to these scammers to call them at (202) 622-2000.
