Police investigating accidental shooting

A Sikeston, Missouri man is dead after what police are calling an accidental shooting.

Police responded to a home on Virginia Street Wednesday after a call about a shooting.

Officers found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Police were told that somehow the man shot himself while handling the gun.

The man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, where he later died.

There is no evidence of foul play.

The man’s name is being withheld until his family is notified.
