Young boys killed in crash

Two southern Illinois boys died when they were hit by a car Thursday night.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says the boys were playing on the side of the road in Gorham when the accident happened around 6:00 p.m.

The boys, ages 8 and 10, were sliding down a steep bank covered in tall grass near Sarensen Road when they slid into the path of a vehicle.

They were taken to St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro where they died.

The names of the boys have not been released.

The Sheriff’s Department says the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
