Man killed after run over by forklift

McCracken County deputies say 87 year-old Doris Lee Simmons died Saturday afternoon after being run over by a forklift.

Deputies were called to Liberty Church Road where they found Simmons inside a barn.  A neighbor noticed smoke coming from the barn and stopped to investigate.

The neighbor found Simmons laying on the ground with the forklift running, in gear up against the barn wall with its tires spinning.

Deputies say Simmons was attempting to jump start the forklift while standing between the front and rear tires. The forklift was in gear and started while Simmons was standing between the tires.
