Missing girl found

A 12-year-old girl reported missing Friday afternoon has been found, according to the Jackson County, Illinois, Sheriff's Department.

The sheriff's department posted to its Facebook page that the girl, 12-year-old Francis Hayes, as well as the 42-year-old man authorities said she may be in the company of, were found around 2 p.m. Friday.

The sheriff's department earlier reported that the girl and the man, David Sheppard had possibly been seen on a bike trail about 8 or 9 miles north of Vienna, heading towards Vienna. The sheriff's department said the girl was falsely claiming to be 16 years old and adopted by Sheppard.

There hasn't been word yet on whether any charges have been filed.

On Facebook, the sheriff's department thanked members of the public for their help in finding the child and man, saying "Thank you for taking the time and sharing our posts. We don't know the circumstances as of yet but it could be very possible that you all just saved this little girl."
