Man charged with stealing license plate after crashing car

A Calvert City man was arrested and charged with stealing a license plate after crashing the car he was driving.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office says on Saturday, July 25, a deputy responded to a crash on Little Cypress Road.

The driver, 18-year-old James Maynard, told the deputy that a malfunction caused him to run off the road and into a mailbox.

The deputy then found out that the license plate on the car was stolen from McCracken County.

Maynard told the deputy that he had been staying with a friend in McCracken County near the address where the plate had been taken from.

Maynard was arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle registration plate, no registration receipt, no registration plates, improper registration plate, failure to register transfer of motor vehicle, failure to notify address change to department of transportation, and criminal mischief.
