Body found in car swept away in floodwaters

A body was found in a car that was washed away in floodwaters Tuesday night.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says there was a washout along KY 276/Blackhawk Road over the Long Pond Branch culvert. This is near the Blue Springs Community in Caldwell County.

A Pennyrile Electric utility crew was working on an outage in the area and saw the road wash out from under the car.

The car was found two hours later submerged and upside-down about 3,000 feet downstream in an area below Tyler Road in Trigg County.

Inside the car was the body of 61-year-old Nancy Fox.

According to Paula Flood with Trigg County Emergency Management, Nancy had been visiting her brother for his birthday and was headed home just a few miles away.

She is the mother of Trigg County Rescue Squad Chief Barry Fox who worked on the rescue and recovery effort.

The washout at the culvert was estimated to be 60 feet across and more than 20 feet deep.
