I-24 bridge closed due to wreck
PADUCAH, KY —
UPDATE (12:43) – All lanes are now open.
UPDATE (11:32) – The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says the east bound lanes of Interstate 24 are now open. The west bound lanes are also open, but traffic is currently moving slowly.
UPDATE – In addition to both lanes of the Ohio River Bridge being blocked, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says both lanes of the Brookport Bridge have now also been closed.
Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says two semi trucks tried to cross the bridge and are now having to back off of it.
The eastbound and westbound lanes of the Interstate 24 Ohio River bridge are closed to traffic because of a multi-vehicle crash Monday night.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd tells us initial reports indicate at least one tractor-trailer was involved in the wreck near the mid-point of the bridge, which connects Paducah and Metropolis, Illinois.
Todd says all lanes are blocked, and Illinois and Kentucky emergency agencies are responding. The estimated duration is four hours.
Passenger vehicles can detour via the U.S. 45 Ohio River "Brookport" Bridge, but Todd says no vehicles over 8 feet wide area allowed on that bridge. That excludes most trucks.
