Kentucky wife accused of stabbing husband

At 1:00 a.m. on August 6th, Kentucky State Police Post 1 received a call from the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office requesting KSP to investigate an alleged self-inflicted stabbing of a Bardwell man.

Investigators responded and discovered that 30 year-old Maurice Mayes had suffered a stab wound to his chest. Mayes was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

After additional investigation, investigators determined that Mayes had been stabbed by his wife, Cassandra J. Mayes.  On August 7th, an arrest warrant was obtained for Cassandra Mayes.

She was arrested a short time later, without incident, and lodged in the Ballard County Detention Center. Mayes was charged with one count of Assault, 1st Degree (a Class B Felony) and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence (a Class D Felony).

The investigation continues by Detective Brett Miller and Trooper Adam Jones.
